Welcome to the latest edition of True Romance. It’s the second week of June, and I’d much rather keep things light and fun, but I don’t call the shots. Romance does. And if romance decides that we need to take a difficult look inward, that’s what we’re going to do.
How far are you willing to go for your significant other? Are you willing to throw everything away for them? Would you, for example, take them in your patrol car, (allegedly) fool around, then toss your bodycam into a lake?
Not everyone would. That’s where the look inward comes into play, but that’s not the only topic of discussion. Did you hear the big news in the world of romance this week? No? Well, that’s why you keep coming back week after week, isn’t it?
ZERO BS. JUST DAKICH. TAKE THE DON’T @ ME PODCAST ON THE ROAD. DOWNLOAD NOW!
Besides the accused officer in trouble and the tantra and lube cruise (more on that in a minute), Mike Vrabel and his wife “were a united front,” according to TMZ, while celebrating their son’s engagement over the weekend.
Is it too far to be digging into his son’s engagement for proof of “a united front?” Some will likely say it is. I’m not one of them, but that’s only because I can see straight through to the romance. If they can make it, and so far it looks like they are making it, then anyone can.
That’s called hope. That’s called unconditional love.
A lighthouse in the dark, foggy waters leading us towards safety and away from crashing into the shore. Are you inspired? I know I am. Let’s go headfirst into this inward look at ourselves.

Are you willing to put it all on the line for your special someone? A police officer in Franklin County, North Carolina, found himself behind bars after being accused of doing just that.
WRAL News reports that Lake Royale Police officer Samuel Marcum was fired and arrested on Wednesday. His crime? You could say he loves too much. What he’s been accused of is having sex on duty in his patrol car.
The arrest warrants reportedly say that while he was an officer, he threw his bodycam into Lake Royale to allegedly hide the fact that those romantic encounters took place in his patrol car while he was on duty.
Marcum initially said that he lost his equipment during an ice storm. He changed his story on Saturday, June 6. In the new version of what happened to the missing bodycam, he admitted to tossing it into the lake.
He reportedly said he did so because he was scared of possible disciplinary actions for allowing his girlfriend in his patrol car. He now faces several charges.
Among them are charges of obstruction of justice, making false official statements, injury to personal property and conduct unbecoming of a police officer.
The investigation is still ongoing, but he’s already sacrificed so much for love. At the very least, he allowed his girlfriend in his patrol car and at the most, if the accusations are true, he had sex in the vehicle while on duty.
This could easily be any of us who follow our hearts.

I saw the “sex cruise setting sail” headline that also made mention of “tantra, lube and no single men” and thought that this has to be more fun than setting sail on a poop cruise. I’m sure the two cruises have similarities.
This so-called sex cruise left port on Tuesday, June 9, I bet that wasn’t an accident, with a planned voyage from Barcelona to Monte Carlo and stops in Florence and Portofino.
The activities aboard the ship aren’t your typical ones that provide the perfect environment for brawls and backed up plumbing. Killing Kittens, a kink-positive event company, whatever that means, set this thing up.
They have swinging events that include the popular White Party, a masked ball, a primal soiree, a latex-themed event and more, according to Metro. This sounds like a wild ride, but there are rules.
You’re not set free on a boat at sea to do anything you want. You can’t reveal the identity of anyone at the parties on board the cruise. You have to be honest. You can’t make up a story about your current relationship status.
Also, there are no solo men allowed to roam around at these things. You can’t even get on the cruise without your wife or girlfriend. And don’t assume it’s a naughty cruise, so there’s no dress code.
There is, this is a classy, all-inclusive cruise. You have to take your nudity to the designated areas.
There are cooking classes, wine and whiskey tastings, sunrise yoga and other distractions, so you can pretend that going on a sex cruise is a completely normal experience. Which, for some, it might be.
I’d assume, much like other cruises, not everything that happens at sea stays at sea. You can follow the rules all you want and still come away with an outbreak of some kind.
That’s one of those unfortunate similarities with traditional cruises. Best of luck to these folks.
Good news for people with eyebags and nervous tics. And for those with facial scars, freckles, a lazy eye, big ears and big teeth, there is someone out there for you.
I have some proof of that. Now, if you’ve got some other “unconventionally attractive” attributes that outweigh having a lazy eye, for example, then you might run into some trouble.
But let’s not focus on that. Let’s focus on the positive and go out on a high note. Here’s a list of things, and there are many more, that people on Reddit consider unconventionally attractive, but they find really attractive.

Over the hump and safely on the other side. Whew. What a week … and it’s only halfway through!
The NBA Finals are, shockingly, taking over the world right now. I’m man enough to admit that, and HATE the NBA. But fair is fair, and these games have delivered.
Credit to the league, and to ESPN. That’s right. I said it. To ESPN. I despise that place, but Mike Breen is probably the best play-by-play man in the booth right now (next to all the FOX guys, of course!).
They’ve steered clear of the nonsense, and just let the games play out. And it’s worked! What a concept. Sure, the angry libs running the show back in Bristol must be seething after Trump’s visit to Game 3 made it the most-watched NBA game in decades, but whatever.
A win is a win!
NBA FINALS RATINGS SURGE AS THE LEAGUE WELCOMES TRUMP, DROPS WOKE MESSAGING — BUT IS IT SUSTAINABLE?
Anyway, welcome to a Thursday Nightcaps — the one where the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders work though some internal drama (allegedly!) on the eve of their big Netflix premiere.
What else? I’ve got a 77-year-old ball … boy … in San Francisco putting it all on the line, Knicks fans going NUTS at JFK, a couple heated responses to my rib-smoking earlier this week, and Apple TV MLB reporter Tricia Whitaker checks in with a quick June update by the pool.
Spoiler alert: It’s going great!
OK, grab you one of these new Coors Light tall boys to celebrate the return of the World Cup, and settle in for a Thursday ‘Cap!
Look at that. You know, there really is beauty all around us. You just have to open your eyes and see it.
Or, you know, something like that.
Anyway, for those far more excited for that than the actual World Cup (hand raised), I’ve got some bad news for you …
It appears we were duped. Coors misled us. Crooks! From the official website:
The Tallerboy is designed to hold three actual Coors Light cans and keep them cold and ready to share with friends and family.
Huh? We were led to believe this was one giant can of beer, right? At least that’s how I read it. And now on launch day — they’re all sold out, so don’t bother — we find out it’s just a big cooler.
What a sham. It’s a cool product, don’t get me wrong. Just not what I thought. Wishful thinking on my part, I reckon. One day.
OK, let’s get this class going. I’ve got a yard to mow and a driveway to edge.
For those keeping count at home, we’ve got 90 (!!!) days till NFL kickoff. Still a ways off, but we’re getting close. The good news? We’ve only got five days till the new season of America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders on Netflix!
And buddy, there is apparently some drama brewing in Big D. According to internet sleuths, veteran cheerleader Karley Swindel was CUT by the squad recently, leading to a viral fan campaign dubbed, “#JusticeForKarley”.
Huge news out of the cheerleading world. I had no idea who Karley Swindel was before this, but people are PISSED.
And, according to People, if you mess with one veteran Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, you mess with all of them.
Fellow Cowboys cheerleader Marissa Lescheber said via DM that the entire squad rallied around Karley after she got the boot.
“Many of us immediately went to be with Karley and our staff members were very respectful and understanding of the gravity of the situation, while still trying to show support for the new rookie candidates,” she said.
Whew. What a mess in Dallas! And just think, we’re still months away from the inevitable late-season meltdown on the actual field. Don’t love the vibes right now. Let’s get this thing turned around!
OK, enough football talk in June. Let’s head out west and check in the San Francisco Giants, who pulled off the second-biggest comeback of the day against the Nationals.
And it all started when this DEMON put his body on the line for a foul ball:
Incredible.
The Giants were down 9-1, 77-year-old “Lefty” made a diving grab on a foul ball, and then they rattled off 10 runs and won the game on a walk-off grand slam in the ninth.
Look at that effort. Look at the form. I’d score 10 runs after that, too. Lord knows I’d at least try. You better believe that I’m locking it back in after seeing a 77-year-old dive for a foul ball in a 9-1 game.
He’s out there baking in the sun, miserable, annoyed like the rest of us. But he’s diving for foul balls in the eighth inning and leaving it all out on the field.
How in the world can you not be romantic about baseball? What a sport.
PS: While that was a great play, with all due respect to Lefty, THIS will always be the best play by a ball boy in Giants history:
Amazing.
OK, let’s quickly rapid-fire this Thursday class into a big Thursday night and get outta here. First up? You’ve seen all the highlights out of MSG from last night, but this scene out of JFK Airport was second to none:
One minute, you’re sitting at the gate, waiting to board what I assume will be another miserable flight. The next, you’re watching the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history with a bunch of random people, and going absolutely nuts.
The best.
Next? I got … a few … emails about my ribs earlier this week. Apparently, everyone is pissed that I didn’t remove the membrane.
From Guy G:
I’m offended by your lack of silverskin removal. No one wants to chew through that!
And, from Alex in NC:
Be a man and pull the membrane, you can’t pull that off and think “Oh dang I wish I left that on so I could eat it.”
Both fair points. I will add this disclaimer: I normally pull it off on baby backs. These were spare ribs, which are tougher. I was also short on time when I got home with them and needed to get them on the smoker by 1 p.m. or they wouldn’t be done in time for dinner. I chose to skip that step out of necessity, not laziness.
OK, maybe a little laziness. But still.
That’s it for today. Good class. Good work, everyone. Apple TV’s MLB reporter, Tricia Whitaker, takes us home!

Chicago Bears legend Brian Urlacher is not happy about his team leaving Soldier Field.
“I don’t like them leaving Soldier Field,” Urlacher told Fox News Digital. “I can’t picture them playing anywhere. It doesn’t matter if it’s Indiana or somewhere in Illinois, I can’t picture them leaving Soldier Field.”
Urlacher placed blame on Democratic leaders in Chicago and Illinois for the planned relocation to Hammond, Indiana. This year, Illinois lawmakers failed to pass legislation providing the property tax certainty and public infrastructure funding the team required to build a new stadium.

“I just don’t see how as a state, legislator, governor, city mayor, how you can let this team leave the state of Illinois, or even be a topic of discussion,” Urlacher said. “You do what you have to do to keep the Bears there.”
The NFL Hall of Famer is particularly bothered by the lack of legislation to keep the Bears amid the state’s sanctuary policies that offer taxpayer-funded resources to illegal immigrants.
“You look at all the money they’ve given to illegal immigrants and the money they’ve set aside for that, it’s like $2.5, $3 billion that they’ve spent on the illegal immigrants. That money could be for the Bears, could be trying to keep them, not for the Bears, but trying to keep their stadium in town, instead of keeping people that aren’t supposed to be in our country here,” Urlacher said.
The State of Illinois was projected to allocate and spent between $2.5 billion and $3.2 billion on services, healthcare and support for migrants and illegal immigrants from 2022 to the end of 2025, according to a report by The Illinois Public Policy Institute.
The Bears have explored options outside their longtime home at Soldier Field, including Arlington Heights and, more recently, a possible move across state lines. Urlacher said Illinois officials should have found a way to keep the franchise from even considering Indiana.
“The fans, we have some of the best fans in the world for any sport,” he said. “If I was those guys, I would probably do what I had to do to keep them in the state of Illinois. Maybe not at Soldier Field, because that was already off the table, but they had Arlington Heights planned out. They have the land bought already. Find a way to keep them there, and they have — they just don’t care.”
Urlacher was especially critical of Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker’s handling of the situation.
“Obviously not. They’re leaving,” Urlacher said when asked whether Pritzker had done enough.
Still, Urlacher understands that the team’s relocation makes sense financially, and will benefit the organization on certain fronts.
“Illinois is not giving them anything tax-wise. They’re not giving them a good deal on their stadium,” he said. “So Indiana’s offering them something better than what Illinois is, so why not go down to the great state of Indiana?”
He added that the team’s ability to control its own stadium would be a major advantage.
“Business-wise, it makes sense, because they’re going to make more money, because they do not own Soldier Field,” Urlacher said. “All the money that they make on Sundays, some of it goes to the city, some of it goes to the Bears. What that divvy is, I don’t know. But I think financially it would be more beneficial for them to go to Hammond.”
Urlacher is only somewhat familiar with the Hammond area. He had been to the casino there “a couple times” when he played. Still, he said Bears fans would follow the team.
“Anywhere the Bears go, they’re going to have their fans,” Urlacher said. “Their games are going to sell out no matter what. If it’s in Arlington Heights, Soldier Field or Hammond, they’re going to sell out no matter where they go.”
Urlacher also spoke glowingly about President Donald Trump, saying he supports the president’s actions.
“Anything that President Trump does, I’m on board with,” Urlacher said. “Everything he’s done so far has been great, so just keep it up.”
Asked whether Trump should try to intervene to keep the Bears in Chicago, Urlacher said he was unsure whether that was something the president could influence.
“I don’t think he has that — I mean, he probably has all the power in the world,” Urlacher said. “He could do that if he wanted to, but I don’t know if that’s in his realm or not.”
Urlacher said Trump is “smart about everything he does business-wise” and “a pretty sports-savvy guy,” but added that his words may carry more weight in Indiana than Illinois.
“He’s probably excited they’re going to Indiana,” Urlacher said. “It’s a great state, big red state, so tax-wise it’s going to be great for the Bears.”
Urlacher also said he was excited to attend the UFC fight at the White House.
“I love America,” Urlacher said. “I think our country’s going in the right direction. Things are getting cleaned up.”
Urlacher also weighed in on athletes facing criticism for political involvement.
New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart was recently criticized by liberals for introducing Trump at a New York rally in May.
Urlacher called Dart an “awesome kid.”
JAXSON DART AND ABDUL CARTER HUG OUT DIFFERENCES, BUT NEITHER APOLOGIZES OVER TRUMP DISPUTE
“If someone asks you to introduce the President of the United States, I think you have to take, uh, that opportunity and do it. I mean, he did a good job,” Urlacher said.
“He got a lot of heat for some reason…a few years ago somebody introduced Obama, and it wasn’t a big deal for some reason, but someone does it for Trump, it’s a huge deal… The media just runs with these things, and they make them a bigger deal than they are.”
Urlacher said he would have introduced any president during his playing career.
“Hell yeah, I would have,” Urlacher said. “But politics weren’t a big deal when I played. No one cared back then. It didn’t become a big deal till 2016 when everyone made you choose a side.”
Urlacher said he would not have cared if one of his teammates introduced former President Barack Obama.
“He’s the President of the United States,” Urlacher said. “Go ahead.”
Urlacher also addressed the debate over transgender athletes in girls’ and women’s sports, saying he has followed the issue “very closely.”
“I think that males should compete against males and females should compete against females,” Urlacher said. “I don’t think that either should be allowed in the other sports.”
Urlacher said he would not want his daughters or future grandchildren competing against biological males.
HALL OF FAMER BRIAN URLACHER REITERATES STANCE ON TRANSGENDER ATHLETES IN SPORTS: ‘COMMON SENSE’
“I don’t want my daughters playing against men,” he said. “If I have grandkids, I don’t want them competing against men either. They should play against women. We’re different. We’re built differently. That’s just the way it is. That’s biology.”
Urlacher accused Democrats, including Pritzker, of siding with the progressive wing of the party on the issue.
“That’s something that they’re trying to push on that far-left side of that party, and they’re really sticking to it,” Urlacher said.
Despite his concerns about the franchise’s stadium situation, Urlacher said he is optimistic about the Bears on the field.
He praised new head coach Ben Johnson and said the Bears’ young quarterback, Caleb Williams, is a major reason for excitement.
“Ben Johnson’s done a great job since they hired him,” Urlacher said. “I think he wanted it because of Caleb. You see why now. The kid’s been unbelievable.”
Urlacher said Williams’ growth from his first season to his second has been “pretty awesome,” and he believes the quarterback will continue to improve as the Bears build around him.
“His skill set is kind of unmatched with the way he runs, the way he throws the football,” Urlacher said. “A lot of guys can run the ball, but they don’t throw it as well, or they throw it really good, but don’t run it as well. He’s got both.”
Urlacher also dismissed any concern over Williams appearing on the cover of Madden.
“I do not,” Urlacher said when asked if he believes in the Madden curse. “What a great honor for him to be on there.”
Urlacher also discussed one of his favorite annual events, the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament in Lake Tahoe.
“Our summer is scheduled around this event every year,” Urlacher said. “Tahoe’s beautiful, but the three days of competition playing against other guys in other sports and acting and all that stuff is a lot of fun as well.”
Urlacher said the tournament’s fan atmosphere adds to the pressure.
“The golf. The competition,” Urlacher said when asked about his favorite part of the event. “Golf’s hard, but you get people watching you, it gets even harder.”
Urlacher joked that his main goal is simple: beat former MLB player Kevin Millar.
“We have a side bet,” Urlacher said. “We’re very similar in handicap, so he’s the guy I want to beat.”
Rep. Summer Lee, D-Pa., said during an interview on Sunday that Black Americans would stop voting if they aren’t given reparations.
Lee slammed President Donald Trump’s “anti-weaponization fund,” and argued, “They are playing psychological warfare with us.”
“And that’s what they do,” she continued. “Because, again, they’re trying to disenfranchise you. Because if you believe that you’re never going to get reparations from this system, then you tap out, and you don’t just tap out of the conversation, you tap out of the system. You don’t want to vote anymore. You don’t participate anymore.”
“And they know that that’s how they don’t control Congress,” Lee added. “That’s how you can get your school boards, your board of supervisors. They want us that far out of this system. So right now, we fight for reparations because it’s owed us. It is owed us, so we’re not going to back down on that one way or another.”
SOME BLACK NEW YORKERS DEMAND CASH PAYMENTS AS ONLY ‘TRUE FORM OF JUSTICE’
Lee reintroduced a resolution in May that, if passed, could give federal dollars to the descendants of enslaved people brought from Africa to the United States. Former Rep. Cori Bush, D-Mo. — who lost her 2024 primary to a more moderate Democrat — introduced the reparations bill in the last Congress. Bush’s bill, unveiled in May 2023, called for $14 trillion to be put toward reparations payments for descendants of slavery in the United States, but it did not go anywhere.
Lee told “The Native Land Pod” that she wasn’t surprised Democrats weren’t backing reparation efforts.
“I’m not shocked that my colleagues are not on it, that Democratic colleagues aren’t on it,” she said. “Again, there is a level of comfort in this building that sustains people. And I know that the people who don’t want reparations back a lot of my colleagues, Democrat and otherwise. So no, I’m not shocked, but it is why we have to keep people on the outside encouraged.”
‘FULL-BLOWN BATTLE’ BREWING IN DEM PARTY AS MAMDANI-STYLE CANDIDATES RISE IN KEY RACES
The Democratic congresswoman was asked about how reparations would work in practice, and about what host Andrew Gillum said was how the right has made the term reparations so “raggedy, ugly, so unattractive that White liberals are avoiding signing onto it.”
“The reality is, is that the cowardice that liberals are able to show when it comes to all types of things that sound scary, but we know you have, you know, just data, evidence, empirical evidence behind it,” Lee said. “And that comes with — that comes with police accountability, that comes with criminal legal reform, that comes with reparations, right?”
“We give liberals very often a pass to not be their most courageous selves,” she added. “So whatever it is that we’re talking about, we have to create the conditions for them to be more courageous.”
CLICK HERE FOR MORE COVERAGE OF MEDIA AND CULTURE
Lee said in May that she knew there would be pushback on reparations legislation.
“We know there will be pushback,” she said after she reintroduced the proposal. “Reparations are a proposal to level the playing field, but the only way we could ever have a level playing field is by remedying the harms that have been done by the system.”
But Lee signaled on Wednesday that the long odds would not deter her.
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani is standing firmly behind his fellow democratic socialist and candidate for U.S. Congress Darializa Avila Chevalier, despite vile deleted social media posts that recently resurfaced.
Avila Chevalier, 32, a longtime community organizer who led the anti-Israel protests at Columbia University, slammed the United States, the Democratic Party, private property, police, borders and called to nationalize large swaths of the private sector in the now-deleted posts from 2018 to 2022.
She is running a heated race to oust five-term incumbent Rep. Adriano Espaillat, D-N.Y., in the state’s 13th congressional district, which encompasses Upper Manhattan and parts of the west Bronx.
In a 2021 repost, Avila Chevalier said that abolishing borders, prisons and police is “possible, necessary, and the only moral way forward,” and later echoed posts that said “all deportation is wrong” and, “Yes, literally abolish the border,” according to one report.
“This country is a f—–g disgrace,” she said in a post.
“I forgot to get napkins so I just wiped my hand on the American flag behind me,” she reportedly said in yet another.
She reportedly called former President Joe Biden a “rapist” and “war criminal,” chastised Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., for his “liberal Zionism,” and said “F–k Kamala Harris.”
NYC VOTERS FLOCK TO SOCIALIST-STYLE FREEBIES AS MAMDANI PUSHES RENT FREEZES, CITY-RUN STORES
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Avila Chevalier demanded the government provide $3,000 per month in universal basic income, nationalizing utilities, pharmaceutical companies and hospitals, suspending mortgages and rent, seizing private property from landlords, dissolving insurance companies and expanding Medicare to every citizen.
None of these past posts deterred Mamdani from supporting his fellow socialist when asked in a Wednesday news conference.
“When it comes to Darializa’s campaign, I had not seen those tweets and what I’ve heard from her and what I know a lot of others in the district that have heard from her is that her views have evolved and that the campaign she is running on is reflective of what she’s going to be fighting for,” Mamdani said.
“And frankly, when I see a candidate who has a record like she does of freeing New Yorkers who are unjustly detained by ICE, of standing up for the working person who has often been left out of our politics, especially in a district that has so many of the same themes that we’re speaking of today — a fear of displacement, a fear of being pushed out of a place you helped to build — I think that she would be an incredible champion for that district and for the city as a whole,” he continued.
Mamdani first endorsed Avila Chevalier in late May.
“She grew up with a commitment to the very people that politics have left behind, and what I see in her is that commitment fulfilled,” the progressive mayor said on MS NOW. “I can’t wait for her to be introduced to so many across the city and across this country as we fight for that affordability agenda, from New York City to D.C.”
New York’s primary election date is June 23.
Fox News Digital reached out to the offices of Mamdani, Avila Chevalier and Espaillat. None responded to requests for comment.
Boston police are investigating the armed robbery of a children’s lemonade stand operated by a pair of siblings.
The Boston Police Department responded at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday to South Boston, where they were met by the children and their father. The kids told officers that two suspects had made several passes by their lemonade stand before approaching and asking if they took Apple Pay, a police report provided to Fox News Digital states.
Before the young entrepreneurs could answer, one suspect grabbed a box containing $50 in cash. One of the suspects displayed a black firearm in his waistband before the pair ran off, police said.
LITTLE LEAGUER SUSPENDED FOR STATE TOURNAMENT GAME AFTER BAT-FLIPPING DURING EPIC HOME RUN
“There is little I can think of more disturbing than the innocence of a children’s lemonade stand being violated by an armed robbery,” Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn, who represents portions of South Boston, wrote on Facebook. “The thoughts of our entire community are with the young children and the families who had to endure this terrible and senseless ordeal.”
The children described the suspects to police. One appeared to be a dark-skinned male about 14 years old wearing a black Nike sheisty—a slang term for a full-face covering—a black shirt, unknown color shorts, and high white socks; this suspect displayed a black firearm in his waistband.
The second suspect was described as a light-skinned male appearing to be 11 years old. He was also wearing a Nike sheisty.
Street cameras in the area were not facing the direction of the incident, police said.
In his social media message, Flynn said the incident could be traumatic for the children’s family.
“As neighbors, we must all understand that an injustice done to one of us is an injustice done to all of us,” he wrote. “While South Boston has certainly changed in my lifetime, one thing that remains is the spirit of its people. In neighborhood fashion emblematic of the South Boston I grew up in, friends and neighbors are rallying to show their support for the family.”
Neighbors planned to help the kids reopen the lemonade stand on Friday, Flynn said.
The World Cup is underway, with the event kicking off in Mexico, and the first goal seemed to be some sort of destiny.
Shortly after the crowd in Mexico City joined together in singing the national anthem, Mexico scored the first goal of the tournament in just the ninth minute.
The field was tilted in the early going, with Mexico already having two corner kicks, and on another trip to the South African side of the field, it found the back of the net.

A pass from South Africa’s goalie got away from a teammate and was picked off by Erik Lira. The ball was then taken by Julian Quinones, who took just one dribble toward the middle of the field and ripped a right-footed shot into the net, putting the crowd into a frenzy.
Quinones ran to his bench and was mobbed by his teammates.
In its World Cup history, Mexico has won 14 of the 22 games in which it has scored first, drawing five others.
Estadio Azteca, renamed Mexico City Stadium for the tournament, held the tournament’s opening ceremonies, during which all 48 competing countries were represented. FIFA president Gianni Infantino was in the building with the FIFA World Cup Trophy.
Grammy Award winner Alejandro Fernandez sang the national anthem, as the Mexican players wrapped their arms around each other and sang in unison. The crowd did the same, and even a member of the Mexican honor guard was captured singing the anthem.
Understandably so, several were seen either letting the tears flow or holding them back as best as they could.
Thursday’s match in Mexico marked the first of 104 total matches from now through the final at MetLife Stadium, or New York New Jersey Stadium, on July 19.
Mexico is coming off a disappointing trip to Qatar, as it was the first time since 1978 that it competed in a World Cup and did not make it to the knockout stage. Aside from its ban in 1990 and not qualifying in 1982, it had made it past the group stage in nine straight World Cups it played in.
It has never made it to the semifinals, last making the quarters in 1986.

Taylor Swift brought her star power to Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night, turning heads as she watched the New York Knicks take on the San Antonio Spurs in a high-stakes NBA Finals showdown.
Swift sat courtside with close friends Alana and Este Haim. The trio joined Celebrity Row alongside Ben Stiller and Mariska Hargitay.
The pop star embraced a spirited, game-day-inspired look built around a bright royal blue “STEVIE KNICKS” T-shirt featuring bold orange lettering across the front. Alana and Este each wore matching shirts saying “KNICKOLE KIDMAN” and “KNICKELBACK.” Swift paired her graphic top with similar black jeans to the ones she wore to cheer on boyfriend Travis Kelce to a Super Bowl win in 2024. She wore her signature bangs swept across her forehead, with the rest of her hair pulled back into a relaxed ponytail.
The New York Knicks made a record comeback from 29 points down and moved to the brink of their first championship since 1973 by beating the San Antonio Spurs 107-106 in Game 4 of the NBA Finals. The Knicks, who have just two titles in their 80-year history and hadn’t even been to the NBA Finals since 1999, have a 3-1 lead and three chances to win the best-of-seven series — starting with Game 5 on Saturday night in San Antonio.
ESPN ANALYST NO FAN OF TAYLOR SWIFT, CALLS HER A FAKE KNICKS FAN: ‘GET OUT OF HERE’
As the Knicks struggled, eagle-eyed fans spotted Scooter Braun – known to have years-long conflict with Swift – and Sydney Sweeney sitting just six rows back from the star. Despite the ominous omen, all eyes were on Swift as she worked to bring up the energy of the crowd by simply being herself.

During halftime, Swift was hyping up her fellow Knicks fans. “We’re going to get the energy up,” she could be heard saying in a video shared online.

As the Knicks chipped away at the deficit, Swift appeared to be one of the few believers left in the building. Cameras caught the pop star doing a celebratory shimmy as New York trimmed the Spurs’ lead to 22 points.
Swift, the Haim sisters and Hargitay joined hands and danced in a circle as the Knicks slowly clawed their way back into the game. At one point, Swift and Hargitay jumped up and down while embracing as the “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit” star whipped her hair back and forth.

The celebration didn’t end at the final buzzer. After the Knicks’ victory, Swift joined Mariska Hargitay, the Haim sisters and Stiller on the court, where the group mingled with players as Madison Square Garden erupted in celebration.
Swift was spotted talking with Kylie Jenner, years after her infamous feud with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian made headlines.

The “Life of a Showgirl” singer kept the party going on her way out of the arena, dancing with fans before heading to the members-only club Zero Bond. Swift, along with Alana and Este, later joined a host of A-list guests as New York celebrated the Knicks’ win deep into the night.

The biggest point of conversation going into Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final had to do with the Carolina Hurricanes’ goaltending situation, and that’s still a point of conversation as the team is once again staying quiet about who will be between the pipes for Game 5 in Raleigh.
But there may be a clue.
Ahead of Game 4 between the Canes and Vegas Golden Knights, the question was whether Frederik Andersen — who had started all the team’s postseason games to that point — would be in net for Carolina, or if Brandon Bussi, who came into Game 3 as a backup and played well, would get his first career postseason start.

The team ended up going with Bussi (backed up by Pyotr Kochetkov with Andersen not in the lineup), and while it was another high-scoring game, the Canes came out with the win.
So, you’d think that they’d continue with the hot hand and go with Bussi again now that the series is tied at 2-2.
But, head coach Rod Brind’Amour didn’t officially name a starter. Instead, he mentioned that Andersen had skated before the main group of players, and that “everybody’s available.”

That said, I noticed that in that main skate, Bussi was in the net typically reserved for the team’s starter.
I get why the Hurricanes would want to play coy, but while there were cases to be made for either goalie in Game 4, it seems like Bussi is really the only choice for Game 5.
Being at home will be a nice change for Bussi after getting his first taste of a playoff start in Vegas, but he still played well, stopping 18 of 21 Vegas shots.
We haven’t seen a goalie steal a game so far in this series — their role has kind of just been damage minimization because both teams’ offenses are buzzing — but perhaps that trend changes on Thursday night in Game 5.
The Cleveland Clinic has agreed to commit $2 million toward detransition care as part of a settlement with the Department of Justice resolving allegations that the hospital system submitted inaccurate insurance claims related to gender-related medical procedures for minors.
The agreement, announced June 5, requires Cleveland Clinic to pay $308,000 to settle billing allegations and dedicate $2 million toward what the DOJ described as “restorative care” for detransitioners.
“We are pleased to have worked collaboratively toward a resolution related to an unintentional coding issue involving a small number of patients,” Cleveland Clinic told Fox News Digital in a statement Thursday. “We remain focused on providing exceptional care to our patients and communities. We have complied and will continue to comply with all federal and state laws.”
The clinic added that it had already provided detransition care to patients who requested it.
A press release from the Department of Justice highlighted that Cleveland Clinic’s settlement came less than a month after Texas Children’s Hospital agreed to pay a $10,000,000 penalty for similar infractions, including billing Texas Medicaid for “unallowable and illegal ‘gender-transition’ interventions,” according to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, as well as starting a clinic for treating detransitioners.
“These historic commitments pair the cessation of these dangerous practices masquerading as medical treatment with substantial investments in remediating the destruction they cause and restoring the health of the victims,” the press release read.
“In working towards this settlement, the United States acknowledged that Cleveland Clinic took significant steps entitling it to credit for cooperation with the Department in its investigation,” it added. “At all times during the investigation, Cleveland Clinic remained cooperative, proactive, and solution-driven, as highlighted by its multi-million dollar commitment to providing care to the victims who most need it.”
Brett Shumate, assistant attorney general for the Civil Division, said in a statement that he is “grateful that institutions like Cleveland Clinic and Texas Children’s have decided to be part of the solution, not part of the problem.”
He added, “Cleveland Clinic’s commitment to providing millions of dollars towards care for detransitioners is emblematic of just that. I am grateful for this resolution with Cleveland Clinic, but our work is far from over, and our division will continue to work tirelessly to protect America’s children and hold accountable those that have preyed on vulnerable children, whether they be pharmaceutical companies or medical providers.”
